prayer (2022 - 2023)

An interactive installation, prayer features a tuft of wool suspended from the ceiling. When viewers cup their hands underneath it, the artwork lights up.

The gesture that the artwork induces mimics the open hands some adopt during their prayers, and the light is a stand-in for the thoughts or being(s) one may hold in their minds when praying.

prayer was inspired by my daily practice of praying and my admiration of the moon, as the artwork recalls the image of a moon shrouded behind clouds.

prayer was first presented in 2022 as part of Regeneration: Ways of Being, a group exhibition organised by Artists Caravan, at AC43 Gallery (Singapore).

prayer was remade in 2023 for >input>output, a solo exhibition and mini open studio (see below). Instead of being set against a black cloth, it was nested within a circle of cream fabric. The enclosed space lends to the sense of privacy and intimacy one may feel when praying.
